Aust lawyers to gain new markets in TPP
In the past, Clinton has been accused of being too close to Wall Street and is no stranger to financial firms’ support.
Clinton’s support for trade deals has seemed to fluctuate with the political calendar. “And I think that is one of the differences”.
Emily Schillinger, a spokeswoman for House Speaker John Boehner said in response to the ad, “This is a classic Clinton attempt to distract from her record of putting classified information at risk and jeopardizing our national security, all of which the FBI is investigating”.
A White House official said Clinton gave the administration a heads-up about her position before the interview.
On one level, her calculation makes sense.
Obama has been dubbed “Deporter-in-Chief” by a few immigration advocates for the record-high number of deportations under his administration. She raised specific concerns about a potential for currency manipulation by China and provisions that she said would benefit pharmaceutical companies at the expense of patients. “Therefore, I oppose it”, Clinton explained last month about the controversial pipeline that would stretch from Canada through Nebraska to the Gulf Coast.
While Mrs Clinton has praised Mr Obama for digging America out of an economic ditch, her parting ways with him on key policies signals she is her own woman on the campaign trail. She’s embracing Sanders’ talk about income equality, has stepped up partisan attacks against her GOP rivals, and offered an unabashed defense of Planned Parenthood. Her announcement comes as Vice President Joe Biden considers entering the race, and labor group have warned his support of the pact would hurt his standing with unions.
While Clinton often says Obama “doesn’t get the credit he deserves” for increasing job growth, she also thinks the economy has “stalled”. In addition, Clinton wants to reduce “dangerous risks in the financial system” and ensure that it will serve the best interests of investors and consumers, “so that everyday Americans can save and invest with confidence that they’re getting a fair shake”.
Many of Clinton’s top aides joined her campaign from the White House and the two staffs remain in frequent communication. Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont), a staunch opponent of the agreement, for the Democratic nomination.
Clinton said that too many earlier trade deals have fallen short and lawmakers need to be more skeptical on future agreements. A Biden representative told the Wall Street Journal that the vice president “supports the TPP agreement and will help pass it on the Hill”. “It’s complicated, and the Russians would have to be part of it, or it wouldn’t work”.
Sanders, however, released a statement saying he stands with the president here and opposes the no-fly zone.
Today, however, the political equation has shifted and, rather than a dash to the center, Hillary Clinton is being pushed to stake out more liberal positions – and she’s delivering.
The emails between Clinton and that former confidante, Sidney Blumenthal, contain strong criticisms of President Barack Obama and his administration’s policy toward Libya, the committee said, adding that Blumenthal “was actively promoting US military engagement in Libya”. Why would she want to?
“But the bar here is very high and, based on what I have seen, I don’t believe this agreement has met it”. “Lord knows I have made my share of mistakes”. In other words, they are counting on her being untrustworthy.
