Retired firefighter burned to death after lawn mower catches fire in
A former New Jersey firefighter died Sunday in an incident involving a lawn mower, 6ABC reports. The incident happened Sunday around 1:30 p.m. on Saylors Pond Road near Route 537 in Springfield Township.
Officials say Lippincott suffered severe burns when the lawn mower combusted. Investigators say Lippincot, a retired Springfield Township firefighter, tried to put the fire out himself.
The township Fire Department identified the man as Roger Lippincott, a former firefighter. So far, no further details have been released.
A State Police spokesman confirmed that the New Jersey State Police bomb and arson squad responded to the scene, along with State Police detectives from the Bordentown station.
An investigation into what caused the mower to catch fire continues. He also served as Springfield Township’s emergency manager coordinator and taught at Burlington County’s Fire Academy.
