‘Badal India’s Mandela’: PM Modi triggers off an internet storm
During a function in New Delhi to pay tribute to socialist leader Jayaprakash Narayan on his birth anniversary, Modi tweeted, “Badal Sahab is sitting here…he is the Nelson Mandela of India”.
Then he described Badal as the “Nelson Mandela of free India”.
In what seemed to be a reference to the Gandhi family, PM Modi said: “There is a special family about whom pages are written in history even if their fingernails break. The only crime of people like Badal sahab is that they had political views different from those in power”.
At a time when the Bharatiya Janata Party’s motormouth ministers have provided much mirth with a few rather far-fetched claims, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unwittingly provided fodder for the trolls on Sunday.
Modi felicitated veteran BJP leader LK Advani, Shiromani Akali Dal chief Parkash Singh Badal, four Governors Kalyan Singh, OP Kohli, Balram Dass Tandon and Valubhai Vala, former Deputy Speaker Kariya Munda, besides BJP leaders VK Malhotra, Jaywantiben Mehta and Subramanian Swamy. “Let’s hope, like Mandela, Bharat Ratna/Nobel Prize next for Badal”.
Party head H. S. Dhami said Mandela is credited with delivering independence to bornslaves where as contrary to it Badal was discredited with strengthing slavery on sikhs.
Soon after the statement, social media was abuzz with posts ridiculing the PM’s comment. Modi’s utternesses was insult not only to antiapartined hero but also hundreds of thousands of people of South Africa who relish on the leadership of Mandela on the contrary the people of Punjab were reeling under the tyrannat and torture rule of Badals.
Yes, the stunning revelation and the divine knowledge had dawned only recently on the Congress Vice-President. Spotting an opportunity, the state government issued a statement on Modi’s praise on Badal.
