Class Klopp can ‘reignite’ Liverpool, says Werner

Jurgen Klopp would have been considered by Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United had Liverpool not swooped in and appointed the German coach.

New Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has asked for time to build a successful side, but suggested he could deliver the Premier League title within four years.

Klopp, the former Borussia Dortmund coach, is understood to have agreed a three-year deal to replace Brendan Rodgers at Anfield. He described his appointment as “one of the best moments in my life” and said Anfield was “the most historical place” in world football. I was at a special club in Germany with Mainz 05 and then had a great opportunity to take Dortmund for seven years.

“I had two very special clubs before and this role is the ideal next step for me”.

It remains to be seen whether the owners make significant funds available for Klopp to spend in January or he will have to wait until next summer to make changes to his Liverpool squad.
