Officials identify 3 of 4 USC Upstate students killed
The vehicle was traveling east around 1: 45 AM in 4th street when it ran off the side of the road, struck a tree and caught fire. Three people were pronounced dead at the scene and two others were taken to the Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, where the fourth victim was later pronounced dead.
Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger has released the name of three victims: Joshua Lee, 20, of Spartanburg, James Campbell, 21, of Greenville, S.C., and Sara Vande Berg, 21, of Zephyr Hills, Fla., according to WYFF4.com. Two were injured and transported to the hospital. Sarah went to all the athletic events at USC Upstate to show support for all the sports. “He just loved life and he loved people”, said Shawn Campbell, James’ father.
“Josh was the most generous man I ever met in my entire life”, Sam Cheshier, a soccer player at USC Upstate, said.
“Sarah was one of my first recruits since moving to USC Upstate and one of the first American recruits”, USC Upstate tennis head coach Dr. Oliver Trittenwein said in the story on the university’s website. Early this morning several students were involved in a tragic vehicle accident, and four students died as a result of the crash.
The surviving student is now in stable condition.

A candlelight vigil is scheduled for tonight at the school’s soccer field. “Together we have been and always will be #SpartanStrong”.
