Halloween display upsets neighbors
City officials say the display is not breaking any laws, and is considered protected under “freedom of expression”.
A realistic Halloween display near an elementary school in Parma, Ohio has reportedly frightened nearby children so badly that a few residents have asked the city to intervene and take it down.
“I felt scared, because I thought they were real people”, a little girl in the area told a reporter.
“If it’s scaring a few kids, and we knew they’re having a hard time leaving school, yeah, we may have toned it down”, she said.
Because the home is only a block from Denzler Elementary School, several neighbors and parents are speaking out after their children were terrified by the realistic decor, WOIO reports.
It’s easy to become the talk of the town with a few well-placed Halloween decorations, but one Ohio family may have taken the holiday spirit too far. “We just want to do the Halloween fun of it but definitely no ill intent”.
Vicki Barrett’s house in Parma is the one getting a lot of attention these days.
“I don’t think we even want to do anything”. Barrett says she has no interest in taking down her Halloween display.
“Shock”, Jackie Anselmo says is her reaction to the decor.
“Barrett says she and her husband haven’t had any complaints, and she even has a two year old and a special-needs teenager and would never do anything to purposely frighten children”. No word yet on what the Barretts plan to dress up as for Halloween.
