Apple to raise Australian App Store prices by 15 per cent
It’s a decision for developers whether or not they’ll utilise the new price option at 99 cents. It says it will not intterupt subscriptions but it will let customers know of the changes.
It’s not just app pricing that will be affected, but also In-App Purchases, including automatic subscriptions.
That’s why Apple’s latest move will be unpleasantly familiar Down Under, though perhaps you can really blame the Aussie dollar. The email also includes a link to allow customers to turn their subscription off.
Apple often changes its App Store pricing, depending on currency exchange rates and the tax situation in various countries. That’s a departure from its previous practice of automatically cancelling subscriptions due to a price change, according to 9 to 5 Mac. The cheap, US$0.99 price tier, which was charged at $1.29 here in Australia, will be pushed up to $1.49, with the increase translating across the board as prices get more expensive.
The price increase will also hit Indonesia and Sweden, and will impact app prices, in-app purchases and subscriptions. Last year, Australian prices for apps increased by 30 percent; AU $.099 apps increased to AU $1.29.
In addition, we’re adding two new low-price tiers, Alternate Tier A and Alternate Tier B, for the Australian App Store.
