David Bowie has decided not to tour again, says promoter
Do you believe Bowie when he says that he won’t tour again? Just maybe don’t hold your breath. David has made his intention to retire from touring very clear. British concert veteran John Giddings, head of London-based Solo Agency and the brawn behind England’s Isle of Wight Festival, says the 68-year-old Bowie is done with life on the road.
Billboard reports that a medical emergency ended David Bowie’s 2004 tour prematurely and that the “Space Oddity” singer has since kept to himself, avoiding every public engagement meant to entice Bowie to return to appearing at public engagements. “I’m really pleased and proud that the last show he ever did in the United Kingdom was the 2004 Isle Of Wight Festival”.
So you might not get to see Bowie perform “Life on Mars?” but that doesn’t mean that Bowie and his influence won’t be felt throughout the zeitgeist.
He’s been busy since then too, performing guest vocals for The Arcade Fire, recording a jazz-infused new single for last year’s compilation album Nothing Has Changed, writing music for a Spongebob Squarepants musical and most recently contributing a new track for the opening credits of new crime drama The Last Panthers. The album, which topped the United Kingdom charts, and hit number two in the US, was promoted by the release of five videos. NME reports that those Bowie tour rumors prompted Geddings to come forward with his statements regarding David’s retirement.
