Court appearance for man charged in Memphis officer killing
People wait outside the Regional Medical Center, Sunday, October 11, 2015, in Memphis, Tenn.
Lorenzo Clark, 36, was charged in the shooting death of 31-year-old Terence Olridge, who had been on the Memphis Police Department just a little over a year.
The men exchanged gunfire, and Olridge was struck. Congressman Steve Cohen released the following statement this morning: “Like all Memphians, my thoughts and prayers today are with Officer Olridge’s family and his fellow officers. He was transported to Regional One where he later died from his injuries”.
Police say Olridge was heading to work when he and a neighbor got into an argument Sunday in the Memphis suburb of Cordova.
According to Business Insider, Oldridge joined the Memphis police department in September 2014. Police say Clark surrendered peacefully after the shooting. Brownlee did not reveal whether further charges will be filed against Carter. A court affidavit says Clark told police he had a 9mm Glock handgun in his trousers, took the gun out and started firing several shots in the street. He leaves behind a four month pregnant fiancee.
Clark was sentenced to just under 2 years’ imprisonment when he pleaded guilty to reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon and unlawful possession of a weapon in a public place in March 2003, Shelby County court records show.
The suspected shooter apparently fell while attempting to flee, was injured and was also taken to the hospital, Cook said.
A man was shot and critically injured during an altercation at a tailgate party in a parking lot outside the stadium where the Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots played on Sunday, police said. “I didn’t think we’d be here again so soon”. Tremaine Wilbourn was charged with first-degree murder of Bolton.
