Amazon Web Services Enters the IoT Development Space
Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) disclosed that its storage platform registered year-over-year growth of 120% while its virtual machine platform registers year-over-year growth of 95%.
One thing I see Amazon doing in all this as part of its product-building strategy with AWS, is to quickly develop and release so many products, while lowering prices, that it makes its competitors look like those that have commodity cloud businesses.
“AWS IoT can support billions of devices and trillions of messages, and can process and route those messages to AWS endpoints and to other devices reliably and securely”, the website reads. “AWS IoT services will facilitate functional, reliable and scalable hosting environments and communications for IoT device providers”. Perhaps that accounts for the number of major implementations that have already been announced.
The tech giant said on Thursday there were no minimum fees for AWS IoT and customers have to pay only for what they use. “Overall, QuickSight is an interesting new solution, particularly for existing AWS customers looking for ways to trim BI usage costs”. Getting started with Amazon QuickSight is simple and fast.
Accenture AWS Business Group will deliver application migration, development and management services and solutions and represents a continued expansion of the relationship between Accenture and AWS.
AWS IoT will enable factory floors, vehicles, health care systems, household appliances and many other things to become connected, the company said in a blog post.
Royal Philips has been collaborating with Amazon for a while now, and its new offering is a reinforcement of that partnership. “At AdRoll, our mission is to help every marketer collect, analyze and use their data to deliver high-performance marketing campaigns”, says Valentino Volonghi, Chief Technology Officer, AdRoll.
It supports HTTP and MQTT, a lightweight communication protocol specifically created to tolerate intermittent connections, minimize the code footprint on devices, and reduce network bandwidth requirements. One way Amazon adds so many features, although it won’t talk much about this, is to contract key elements from other companies. “The new IoT Starter Kit contains everything a developer needs to create powerful proofs-of-concept for IoT and Wearables and bring their ideas to fruition”. This is a product for end-users and not just developers.It isn’t a surprising move, but one that is rattling the cages of the companies that are built on top of Amazon. Amazon Web Services has a “pretty good” track record in this respect so it should work out for the company over time. “Based on our initial preview of Amazon QuickSight, we think this service is going to challenge the status quo”. “We tend to be builders”.
Moving over to the data management realm, Treasure Data, an analytics firm for large-scale event data, has unveiled a new set of enterprise-level integrations with AWS IoT, in addition to Salesforce and Marketo.
Amazon said it would offer customers 250,000 free messages per month, for 12 months.
Users can also share their analysis with others in their organization using a StoryBoard feature.
