Insurgents shell Russian embassy in Syria during rally
A few 300 people according to the resident at the scene begun to gather for a protest thanking Moscow for its recent intervention in the country after the rockets crashed into the embassy in the Mazraa neighbourhood.
The explosions triggered widespread panic and smoke was seen coming from the embassy compound.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group said the rockets were fired from the eastern edges of the capital, where Islamist rebels are entrenched.
“The war in Syria will make the Russians forget the horrors that they found in Afghanistan”, al-Jolani said, adding: “They will be shattered, with God’s permission, on Syria’s doorstep”.
Russian Federation began its campaign of air strikes in Syria late last month.
The group called for attacks on the Alawite sect, a minority community which Syrian President Bashar al-Assad belongs to, as per reports. A second witness said one of them landed inside the compound but did not hit the building itself.
