Liverpool unveil official Jurgen Klopp merchandise in club shop

The former Manchester United manager joked that he “didn’t like saying it” because it is United’s big rivals, Liverpool, but that Klopp is a “good appointment”.

In addition, James Milner and Mamadou Sakho, who had been away on worldwide duty, returned, while Kolo Toure and Joao Carlos Teixeira also featured.

While Liverpool’s decision to sack Brendan Rodgers wasn’t exactly blindsiding, FSG’s decision to drop Rodgers so early in the season may have been a bit of a surprise.

On Friday at the press conference to officially present him as the new manager Klopp spoke in glowing terms of his current squad and how he felt they were capable of performing at a higher level.

Whether it’s in January or the end of the season, I hope he gets the proper backing that he’s going to require.

Expectations are sky-high at Liverpool following the arrival of Klopp, but the former Dortmund boss has stressed he can not perform miracles and will need time to build his own team.

Reports over the weekend suggested that Liverpool are in advanced talks with Porto over the 18-year-old who has a release clause in his contract enabling him to leave for a fee of €40million (just under £30million).
