Audit report finds nothing suspicious in 1MDB probe
“If you say billions of fund belonging to 1MDB is missing, wait and listen to the Auditor-General’s report, whether that is true or not”.
The documents had been requested by the Auditor-General for its interim report which had been handed over to the PAC this morning.
Media photographers and cameramen were allowed to take photographs and make visual recordings before the PAC went into session.
The PAC initiated its own investigation into the government investment company on May 19, after having chose to do so at a special meeting on April 30.
“I don’t want to announce it; we wait for him (Auditor-General) to announce it”, he said.
“The question is: ‘Is there an instruction to prevent the documents from reaching the PAC or intentionally delaying as long as possible to prevent these documents from reaching the PAC?'” said PAC member Tony Pua.
“We are giving enough time for them to attend”, Nur Jazlan added.
Nur Jazlan Mohamed, Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chief, told a press conference Thursday that they had received complaints that 1MDB was not cooperating fully and had yet to submit documents including bank statements and investment agreements.
Malaysian authorities earlier this week said they had ordered six accounts to be frozen in connection with the allegations against Mr. Najib, but didn’t give further details on who owns or controls the accounts.
PETALING JAYA: The USD529 million sitting in the bank account of Penang-born businessman Jho Low was the subject of correspondence between Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and Singapore police, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported today.
On the contrary he said this would illustrate the fact that the prime minister’s leadership, character and personality conform to the principles of democracy.
On Wednesday, the prime minister initiated legal action against WSJ over the allegation.
The report covered preliminary analysis of 1MDB accounts, the government’s borrowings and guarantees via 1MDB and the firm’s assets.
He is also seen as connected to Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak due to his friendship with the latter’s stepson, Hollywood producer Riza Aziz.
Interviews were held with the majority of the board of governors and the old and new management of 1MDB. This includes investments with PetroSaudi. The police’s Suspicious Transaction Reporting Office (STRO) also confirmed that the business account was closed in February past year.
“I don’t think the interim report nor the full report would be 100 percent complete without the said documents”, he said.
