Next Project For Steven Spielberg, A Romantic Comedy?
Audiences applauded the film during its World Premiere at the New York Festival on Sunday.
The pair have been close friends for many years and collaborated on a number of movies and mini-series, most recently the upcoming “Bridge of Spies”, but their friendship only turned into a professional relationship when they approached each other about working on 1998’s “Saving Private Ryan”. “The first half of this movie I dedicate to you”.
New Yorkers will recognise familiar theatre faces up on the screen – Mark Rylance (who plays captured Soviet spy Rudolf Abel), Scott Shepherd, Billy Magnussen – alongside the likes of Alan Alda and Amy Ryan.
“To clarify, I didn’t predict the implosion of the film industry at all”, said Spielberg, during a Bridge Of Spies press day.
He praised Tom Hanks for his versatility and said, “For me, everything that Tom does is a surprise to me because I don’t recognize him”. The authenticity of the time period (which is the 1950s) is remarkable, and everything is spot on from the costumes to the sets themselves – especially once Donovan embarks on his mission to Germany while the Berlin Wall is being built. “Do your work to prepare and then have a good time with it”.
The maverick filmmaker, Steven Spielberg is keen on doing a rom-com with Tom Hanks.
As for the filmmakers, you can tell that Spielberg used his renowned skills as both a director and producer to bring this breathtaking project to life.
