Canadiens’ dominance over Bruins continues
For a player most known for his worth in the defensive zone, it’s pretty remarkable that Plekanec notched point No. 500 in his 763rd game. The Bruins have their captain back and still can’t get things together. Boston had many calls go against them including a goal by Loui Eriksson that was waived off. Julien challenged this and although many people feel like the call should be overturned, it stayed the same. Last season, the Islanders were 40-8-4 when they scored at least three goals (including shootout winners) and 7-20-3 when they didn’t.
“Get back on the right track, obviously not the two first games that we wanted, for the team and personally”.
Montreal Canadiens players including P.K. Subban (76) and Alexander Semin (13) congratulate David Desharnais (51) after he scored a goal as Boston Bruins players Kevan Miller (86) and Joe Morrow (45) skate away during the first period of an NHL hockey game in Boston, Saturday, October 10, 2015.
The Boston Bruins are still looking for their first win after two straight losses to start the year.
But the Bruins did get on the board with 5:34 left in the second period when diving defenseman Dan Petry deflected the puck in front of Price and Beleskey scored.
With his linemates bringing those skills to the equation, Eller’s role is to finish plays.
Over the summer, first-year general manager Don Sweeney traded defenseman Dougie Hamilton and forward Milan Lucic for packages that mostly included draft picks. The Bruins killed 3:55 of the major when Marchand took a slashing penalty. Perhaps more important: That the Bruins deleted one of only three left-shooting defensemen (Irwin) on the eve of a game suggested that Chara, who was injured on September 24, could make his 2015-16 debut against the Lightning.
It wouldn’t be a Bruins-Canadiens game without a few shenanigans.
Granted, a match penalty for this hit from Boston’s Ryan Spooner on Brian Flynn was hardly deserved.
Boston’s diminutive defenceman was asked after the game why his team has fallen into a pattern of losing to the Canadiens.
“Communication will be big, if we are together”, said Kelly, who will try to help the line execute “little plays – quick support, trying to outnumber guys, being patient when need be and aggressive when that opportunity comes.”
Something tells me that the Winter Classic is going to be both exciting and predictable when it comes to who will win. Erik Condra, the only offseason addition to the Lightning, scored his first goal in the 4-1 victory at Buffalo on Saturday as he is playing on a line with Valtteri Filppula and Alex Killorn in the early going. Carey Price bailed them out (sound familiar?) and they won.
