Bradenton DWI suspect tells cops: ‘My dog was driving that car’
Cooper allegedly led deputies from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office on a chase through a residential area Wednesday evening, traveling through two ditches before crashing into a home, WPTV reported.
In a bid to evade arrest after being caught following a long police chase, a man in the USA state of Florida blamed his dog for driving his auto in an inebriated condition.
Cooper then ran from the vehicle and hid inside the bathroom of a nearby church.
But Cooper’s most notable claim concerned who was behind the wheel.
And it all went wrong when the driver hit a ditch and overcorrected, finding another ditch before slamming into someone’s home.
“My dog was driving that vehicle”, Cooper told the deputy while trying to lay blame on his canine, adding, “I ran (be)cause I wanted to”. He also taunted the deputy who chased him, calling him “slow as [expletive]”.
Deputies reporting smelling a strong odor of alcohol and marijuana on Cooper.
No dog was actually spotted in Cooper’s vehicle, Dave Bristow, a spokesman with the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, told The Huffington Post. “You ain’t gonna find no drugs or guns on me”.
Cooper is facing charges of driving while intoxicated, causing property damage, fleeing from police and leaving an accident scene. Cooper’s tone changed when he started throwing up on himself and complaining of a back injury, so at that point he was taken to a hospital in Bradenton. He is being held in the Manatee County jail on bonds totaling $26,120.
