Jordan Smith vs Regina Love ‘Like I Can’ The Voice Battle Rounds
No, not short-haired Adam Levine or even half-shaved Adam Levine: actual cue-ball bald Adam Levine of July 2015. And by wise person, I mean how the capitol justified The Hunger Games.
The rumor mill is filled with stories claiming that Shelton and his fellow coach Gwen Stefani are now an item. It is, predictably, a bad decision. They performed on “Like I Can” by Sam Smith. Lawrence looked a lot more comfortable on stage, but both sounded great during the performance, and Stefani and Gomez made the right call by telling Atlas to ditch the guitar. “I think that’s a first”. She gets stolen by Gwen.
Tyler Dickerson is the old veteran who had troubles in rehearsals, and Zach is the white bread 16-year-old with a classic country voice of gold.
Blake Shelton has not just moved on from Miranda Lambert, “The Voice” coach also has moved on from his “chubby” self.
COACHES’ THOUGHTS – Pharrell said it was nice to hear Zach go in the higher register and Tyler is a seasoned pro up there. Tyler came on to the show with a more country-rock edge, while Zach is definitely the typical boy-next-door with a soft voice. He has less flattering words for Tyler, who he wished had played it less casual.
‘But you really strengthen each other, it’ll be a shame when you’re not singing together, ‘ he added. “Put a few passion back into it”.
Country singer Shelby Brown surprisingly chose Team Adam over Team Blake on The Voice. Selena Gomez embraces their rehearsal errors, telling Tim, “In the mistakes, there’s the opportunity to find something”. He said he knows what an incredible talent Tyler is. We didn’t see anyone really gunning for their competition tonight.
The next hopefuls on the stage were Ellie Lawrence and Tim Atlas from Team Gwen.
Gwen doesn’t fall for it, and picks a stunned Ellie.
Ozark native and Team Pharrell member Celeste Betton is set to go up against Mark Hood during the battle rounds while Elberta teen Shelby Brown will compete against Amanda Ayala for Team Adam. At least, not when those Virginians are Pharrell Williams and Missy Elliott. During their performance, it’s Jordan who’s able to better follow this advice.
The Battle Rounds of The Voice make up my favorite portion of the show’s (overly drawn-out) elimination process.
“Your choice of notes is like listening to vocal Cirque du Soliel”, Pharrell tells Celeste. The “Sangria” singer has reportedly gotten a dramatic weight loss amid and post divorce that he is now packing a leaner bod. Mark rightfully won. Celeste has a attractive voice but she lacked a certain something. It’s downright shocking when no one steals Celeste, and she sings her emotional goodbye to Pharrell. I even was anxious that, somehow, I was going to go home, like I wasn’t going to be the victor of the battle.
Adam invited “one of his idols” John Fogerty, the 70-year-old Creedence Clearwater Revival frontman. However, since this is not how The Voice works, he ends up choosing Barrett.
“I think James, overall, was the most consistent singer”, says Blake.
“I was so taken by what you do”.
Adam and Gwen immediately swooped in to steal Dustin. “It’s going to be a shame when you’re not singing together”, Brad Paisley says, and we agree (although we could do without the slightly awkward in-the-car-on-the-way-to-the-studio filler scene.) Following our logic from above, Barrett was another artist promoted by NBC before his audition aired, so it’s not surprising at all that he wins.
The final battle of the night paired Barrett Baber and Dustin Christensen from Team Blake. Both guys hit impressive falsettos, and harmonize perfectly throughout. “You deserve to be on this show”, Stefani told Love.
“He’s like a linebacker”.
What do you think of The Voice 2015 so far? This one was wonderful, as they both are great. Fortunately, Gwen and Adam both buzz in for Dustin and Adam ends up stealing him.
“I worship your voice. You are so unexpected and that just turns me on”, said Gwen Stefani.
Tattooed barber Dustin Monk, 27, was pitted against clean cut James Dupré from Louisiana on Team Adam.
The Voice continues tonight at 10 PM ET/PT on NBC.
