Barclays Exec Says Bank Will Support Apple Pay
Apple no doubt wants to change this and Apple Pay does provide a slick user experience, while iPhone 6 sales are doing well in the UK. That push has been tied to some surmising that the company could be readying its own mobile platform, though MacRumors said the speculation of an imminent Apple Pay launch would indicate a Barclays-specific mobile payments service may not be in the offing.
When Apple announced Apple Pay was coming to the United Kingdom, it was rather vague about dates, simply stating that it would reach these shores in July.
Apple informed customers of the news via an email, which said: “To prevent interruption in your iCloud service during the current fiscal crisis, and to make sure you have access to your content, we’ve extended your iCloud storage plan for an extra 30 days at no additional cost”. “We are excited too”. Users can also remotely cancel the service on a lost phone using Apple’s Find My iPhone service. That being said, a July 14th launch would confirm earlier reports on the matter from retailer sources, and is also the date spotted in an internal memo from supermarket Waitrose, notes 9to5Mac.
However, this limit looks set to rise in September to £30.
When it is launched, more than 250,000 locations will accept Apple Pay. It will enable users to tap their phone on contactless payment points to complete transactions – just like a contactless credit card.
When a card is added to Apple Pay, a Device Account Number is assigned to that card and then securely stored within the same chip as your Touch ID details.
Contactless payment continues to grow rapidly in popularity, with more than £2 billion spent via the system in 2014, according to the UK Cards Association.
