Muguruza Withdraws From Hong Kong
Spain’s Garbine Muguruza on 11 October 2015 captured the China Open women’s singles title by defeating Switzerland’s Timea Bacsinszky.
Indeed Swiss star Bacsinszky raced into a 5-2 lead in the opening set, but the 2015 Wimbledon finalist responded in fine fashion by winning five straight games to take the initiative in the contest.
The victory is all the more unexpected as fifth seed Muguruza, 22, retired from the Wuhan Open final against Venus Williams just a week ago, citing exhaustion. In fact, this has been a landmark week for the Spaniard as she not only celebrated her 22nd birthday but also secured her place in the WTA Finals.
“I wanted to win in Beijing so much that I went out on the court ready to give it everything I had, and I did it”, Efe quoted the 22-year-old as saying.
Garbine Muguruza has withdrawn from this week’s Hong Kong Open because of a lingering ankle injury. This was this by far the biggest final of her career, and she’ll also break the Top 10 for the first time now.
This match with Ivanovic was another three-set win after which she reached her first WTA premier mandatory final.
After her run in Beijing, she has not only become one of the first to claim a spot for the WTA Finals in Singapore but is now biting at the heels of No3 in the rankings.

“I’m very excited to have qualified for the WTA Finals in Singapore”, said Garbiñe Muguruza.
Djokovic had seven aces to none for his Spanish rival, and saved both break points he faced in the match, which was the 45th between the two players. “It’s unbelievable, and I can’t wait to come back and defend my title next year”, Muguruza said.
