Muguruza to play Bacsinszky in the final
The tall, elegant and big-hitting Spaniard, Garbine Muguruza, has won the biggest title of her career, the prestigious Premier Mandatory in Beijing, just a week after falling short at the final hurdle at the lesser Premier tournament in Wuhan.
Fifth seed Murguruza, 22, won five games in a row to take the first set, then came back from 2-0 down in the second set to close the 12th-seeded Swiss out 7-5, 6-4.
“My body is asking for rest, I haven’t recovered completely from my ankle, my body is exhausted and I have to get ready for the tournament of the year”, Muguruza told Efe.
As Muguruza had failed to win a match in Beijing before, losing in the first round a year ago to Ekaterina Makarova, she stands to continue rising up the rankings in cracking the top four next week.
“Next up for Muguruza is the WTA Finals season climax in Singapore, where she has a chance to quickly cement her status as the coming force of women’s tennis”. I need to keep my level for Singapore. “Thank you for every day”.
“I’m exceptionally eager to have fit the bill for the WTA Finals in Singapore”, a blissful Muguruza was cited as saying by the WTA Finals.
The Hong Kong organizers were determined to host a strong tournament after the event was reinstated after an 11 year gap in 2014 but in recent weeks notable contestants such as former world no. 1 Victoria Azarenka and Eugenie Bouchard reluctantly had to pull out with injuries. The second set was much like the first with Muguruza getting the decisive break at 4-4 before serving out the match to take the title.
Muguruza will be aiming to win her first title of the year having lost in the finals at Wimbledon to Serena Williams and Wuhan to Venus Williams.
Despite surrendering her lead in the Beijing final, Bacsinszky also departs with a new milestone and the impetus for more success. “It’s wonderful, and I can’t wait to come back and defend my title next year”, Muguruza said.
