Cause of Death Determined for Tyler Sash
Both methadone and hydrocodone are prescribed to deal with pain, although the medical examiner’s report does not specifically mention that.
An autopsy has determined Tyler Sash died from an accidental overdose involving two pain medications.
According to the medical examiner, an autopsy showed Sash had a toxic mix of methadone and hydrocodone in his system and his death was ruled an accident. According to The Associated Press, Sash’s body will undergo further tests to determine if he might have suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative brain disease found in many former National Football League players.
The medical examiner said that a recent shoulder dislocation and a history of chronic shoulder pain suffered by Sash were also “significant conditions” in the death. The Giants cut ties with Sash prior to the 2013 opener, reaching an injury settlement after he sustained a concussion in the preseason finale against New England. Those tests can take from eight to twelve months. During that season, Sash led the Hawkeyes with six interceptions en route to a victory in the Orange Bowl.
Sash, who was 27, was a key special teams player on the Giants’ 2011 Super Bowl team, but his career was checkered.
