FedEx truck crash dumps packages over I-4, closes lanes
ORANGE COUNTY, FL- A FedEx truck crashed along Interstate 4 early Tuesday, spilling hundreds of packages onto the highway and off an overpass.
The crash happened around midnight along eastbound I-4 (mile marker 71).
After striking the auto, the driver of the truck lost control. The cab portion of the tractor-trailer remained along the highway, but the trailer ended up along Central Florida Parkway. The first trailer became detached, went over the guardrail and fell onto the highway below.
Troopers said two vehicles on westbound I-4 were hit by flying debris and received minor damage.
Two people had minor injuries, including the driver of the 18-wheeler, who had to climb out of the cab above the river.
There were no other injuries in the incident.
A FedEx spokesman said the company’s “first concern is for the well-being” of the drivers involved. “We are cooperating with authorities on the scene, and we have processes in place to retrieve packages and contact customers”.
A few lanes of eastbound I-4 were closed for several hours while the scene was cleared.
