Toshiba quick to the draw with Wacom-equipped DynaPad
When Microsoft switched to N-Trig for the Surface Pro 3 and again for the new Surface Pro 4, it necessarily had to push Wacom to the background.
Now Toshiba has shown its hand in the form of a 12-inch Windows 10 tablet that is coming to the United Kingdom early next year.
The tablet has a 1920 x 1280 pixel IPS display with a dual-layer coat of anti-reflection and anti-fingerprint material. This way the touchscreen won’t get smudged in record time and the image will remain visible and clear for a longer period. While the higher profile maker of graphics tools might not have been affected dramatically, it became less the talk of the town when it came to stylus-enabled Windows tablets. What is special about this feature is that, according to Toshiba, it’s able to create the same feeling users have when writing on actual paper with an actual pen.
The dynaPad device is a new digital notebook created to help encourage user creativity and productivity. With a 1.44 GHz Atom processor and 4GB of memory, the DynaPad isn’t going to rival the Surface Pro 4 in terms of performance, but Toshiba says the tablet part of its 2-in-1 is the thinnest and lightest 12-inch in the world. While with the keyboard attached, the device weighs around 996 grams and measure 14.9mm in thickness.
Of course, the dynaPad has a keyboard attachment to turn it into a laptop, and this is lightweight as well, featuring a satin gold carbon body.
Microsoft is instead putting more weight on the dynaPad’s creative uses, thanks to the Wacom Active Electrostatic TruPen technology that boasts of 2,048 levels of pressure. Although we already think that Toshiba’s new DynaPad is a great device, we are eager to see its complete spec sheet and its price tag.
Though the Toshiba will likely cost less than the currency conversion above would suggest when it hits the USA and Europe in Q1 2016.
