One Dead, Three Wounded In Northern Arizona University Shooting
Authorities say he opened fire on a group of students after a late-night conflict in a parking lot of the Flagstaff campus, leaving one student dead and three other people injured.
Jones reportedly told police that the people he shot had punched him in the face and were chasing him when he fetched the gun from his vehicle.
Just hours after the Arizona shooting, police said one person was killed and another wounded in a shooting at an apartment complex near the campus of Texas Southern University in Houston, and a suspect had been taken into custody.
NAUPD Chief Greg Fowler said the suspect in custody is Steven Jones, a freshman at NAU.
Deputy County Attorney Ammon Barker also accused Baker of giving “self-serving statements” to police in order to protect himself.
“If a criminal knows that there is people walking around with guns, then why would they go there and not somewhere else”.
The four victims are members of Delta Chi fraternity, but Mr Jones is not.
Brough’s frat brothers Kyle Zientek (left), Nicholas Prato (center) and Nicholas Piring (right) were also shot and injured.
Brough’s Facebook page says he was from Annapolis and lists Cantler’s Riverside Inn as a place he worked, though when contacted Friday, Cantler’s manager Bruce Whalen said there was no documentation of anyone with that name ever working there.
“We have one student deceased and three others being treated at the Flagstaff medical centre”. NAU spokeswoman Janea (jah-NAY’) Laudick said the victims’ families requested privacy and that no additional information be released.
Silva said investigators were searching for a motive, but that police were not treating it as an “active shooter” investigation.
The incident marked the third shooting on or near the campus in less than a week, though it’s unclear whether the shootings were related.
“I’m most definitely concerned”, she said.
“I was just hoping my friend wasn’t dead”, Prato said, referring to Colin Brough.
Classes were canceled following the lockdown Friday.
Arizona law prohibits guns from being carried on campus, but they are permitted inside of a locked vehicle. All involved are TSU students.
