Canon announces two new PowerShot G-series cameras
We had a chance to go hands-on with the new cameras at a Canon event and, while the samples weren’t fully working (i.e. we couldn’t take any photos with them), from a physical standpoint all are impressive. Ensuring incredible clarity and detail in your shots, the EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM includes three aspherical lenses, removing the need to compromise on quality when using a smaller device.
Canon expanded its EOS mirrorless interchangeable lens camera line Tuesday with the introduction of the compact EOS M10, and underscored its continuing commitment to the point-and-shoot camera segment by unveiling a pair of PowerShot G Series models. Ideal for documenting the world around you, or stepping up from smartphone snaps, the EOS M10 combines Canon’s most advanced image processor, DIGIC 6, an 18 Megapixel sensor, and Hybrid CMOS AF II to deliver responsive handling and stunning image quality in both stills and Full HD Movies.
In an effort to expand its large sensor PowerShot G-series camera lineup, Canon has introduced two new PowerShot cameras, the PowerShot G5 X and PowerShot G9 X. On the inside, the M10 uses an 18-megapixel APS-C sensor run by Canon’s proprietary DIGIC 6 image processor. The PowerShot G5 X comes with a built-in, OLED electronic viewfinder (EVF) that has the same high 2.36-million dot resolution found on Fujifilm’s X-T10 and X-T1.
The built-in Near Field Communication (NFC) functionality of the EOS M10 camera is compatible with most current Android devices for easy setup of Wi-Fi communication, and the camera’s Mobile Device Connect Button supports wireless connectivity with IOS and Android devices.
“We continue to strive to provide photographers with a range of imaging equipment options to support each individual shooting style while still providing the features, usability, and performance they expect from a Canon camera”, said Yuichi Ishizuka, president and COO of Canon United States of America, Inc.
The Canon EOS M10 also features a 3.0-inch touch screen display that has 1.04 million pixels.
Canon is also announcing their new EOS M10. In addition to the touch panel, a lens-mounted control ring can be utilized to adjust several functions, including customizable manual focus.
The PowerShot G5 X and PowerShot G9 X camera kits are scheduled to begin shipping in November 2015 at suggested retail prices of $799.99 and $529.99, respectively.
The PowerShot G5 X measures 112.4 x 76.4 x 44.2 mm and weighs approximately 377 grams with battery and memory card installed. The camera has an ISO range of (125 to 12,800), can rattle off images at around 6 fps (frames per second), and is capable of recording Full HD 1080p video at frame-rates of up to 60 fps. It will be offered in two colours: black and silver with brown leather trimming. Additionally, both new models incorporate a built-in ND filter for enhanced exposure control in bright shooting conditions.
