SASS helps women afford mammograms

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the National Football League is helping to spread the word.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and an important event is coming to Prospect Park to raise funds and involve the community. He says be aware of what the tissue feels like and look out for lumps, bumps, any skin changes, dimpling, discharge, redness or irritation, or pain. Rockleigh residents, together with members of the Gallen Adult Medical Day Care program will be taking part in the Pink Challah Baking ahead of Pink Shabbat.

That’s great. A healthy lifestyle may lower your risk of breast cancer (and many other diseases), but it doesn’t eliminate your risk.

“A very close friend of mine has just undergone surgery for breast cancer, which does make the event this year even more meaningful for me”, Ms Dowling said.

“This modern technology is offering new opportunities for physicians to diagnose breast cancer in women and provide life-saving treatment earlier than ever”, said Governor Tom Wolf.

Sometimes mammograms can detect the cancer up to three years before it can be felt.

“We have more than 3.1 million breast cancer survivors in the United States today”, said Tina Jacobs, Director of Community Health Komen North Jersey. This fact is owed largely to earlier detection thanks to screenings and increased awareness as well as improved treatment.

Organizers said it takes only 15 minutes to get a mammogram. “We bring everyone under one roof so that you can get all of the information that you need, different self-exams, and how often you should go the doctor, ask a few questions about mammograms”.

They also have computers to explore other options.

But that’s about the extent of it. We’re never told how many lives could be saved by more regular screening, nor how those benefits stack up against growing concerns related to overdiagnosis and overtreatment.

“So looking into where you’re giving your money and where your money is going, and making sure that it drives benefits into the areas that you want it to drive benefit in”.
