Kompany fit to play for Belgium on Tuesday
Manchester City will have no say in whether Vincent Kompany plays for Belgium against Israel this week.
The centre-back has missed the last five games in all competitions for City due to a calf problem.
“Vincent Kompany has participated fully in training and without any problems”, he said.
Having spent the global break with Belgium, Kompany has resumed training after his calf injury, but sat out the game in Andorra, which was played on an artificial surface at the Estadi Nacional.
“I’ve not been in contact with Man City myself, but the club are kept up to date with developments”, said Wilmots.
“There’s one more practice before the match – Vincent has to prove he’s okay to play, then I have a choice to make”. The national team have a list of the players that play for them and they have, in the worldwide break, the authority to use them.
Manuel Pellegrini might not like it, but if Kompany plays he will just have to lump it – and it is unlikely he will complain to the player or the Belgian FA. “I expect that he will be ready for the match against Israel”, coach Marc Wilmots told reporters on Sunday.
“He’s been working with the rest of the squad since Friday, and that’s good for Manchester City and good for Belgium”.
However, Kompany is set to feature in the concluding European championship qualifier against Israel tonight and is especially determined to play as victory could see Belgium top the Federation Internationale de Football Association world rankings.
Pellegrini remains hopeful David Silva will recover from injury in time for the derby later this month.
Argentina worldwide Sergio Aguero faces at least a month on the sidelines with a grade two hamstring tear sustained against Ecuador and the striker will definitely miss the trip to United.
