National Football League denies DeAngelo Williams from wearing pink to honor his mother
The Steelers running back plans to dye his hair pink for the duration of the season, like he did last season while playing for the Panthers. Williams recently uploaded a two-part video to Instagram with him as the focal point of a commercial to help spread awareness.
According to a report from ESPN’s Jerry Fowler, Williams was told by NFL vice president of football operations Troy Vincent that he was not allowed to wear pink accessories past October, because it would violate the league’s uniform policy. We’ll officially designate you our ‘Breast Cancer Awareness Ambassador, ‘ or something like that, and we’ll also ask for volunteers from every team to wear pink all year round. All four of Williams’ aunts died from breast cancer before even making it to the age of 50, with the youngest dying at 32.
“I am so passionate about raising awareness, because I have seen firsthand how it can impact others”, Williams wrote in a powerful first-person essay on The MMQB. I walked away thinking, ‘Wow, pink is really so much more than just a color. “It’s about getting women to recognize to get tested”. So he plans to keep the pink he’s been wearing in his hair. Apparently, the NFL’s stringent dress code takes precedence to their breast cancer campaign.
The correct answer to that question would have been, “Yes, DeAngelo Williams, you may wear pink gloves and wrist bands and shoes all season long as a tribute to your mother!”

This applies when players have noble causes they want to promote.
