H.R. Pufnstuf Returns for Nickelodeon Special
In “H.R. Pufnstuf Comes to Mutt & Stuff!”, Stuff’s favorite uncle H.R. Pufnstuf decides to visit him at the canine school.
The puppet dragon at the center of Sid and Marty Krofft’s late 1960s, live-action children’s series – and a few of his friends – will be part of a Mutt & Stuff special on Nickelodeon in early 2016, the network announced Tuesday.
H.R. Pufnstuf and Co.’s return to the small screen will likely bring many eyes to the Krofft brothers’ new show, which premiered in March and recently got the green light to produce 20 more episodes.
“H.R. Pufnstuf” made its debut in 1969 and became a cult classic via reruns on Saturday mornings in the 1970s.
“Mutt & Stuff” is the first children’s TV show from the Kroffts since they produced “Land of the Lost”, the 1974-77 series about a family’s adventures in an alternate universe populated by dinosaurs. In a meeting along with the Los Angeles Times, Marty Krofft talked about which typically “Mutt & Stuff” is of interest to really young ones because young ones remain desire a… Another stubborn idea, that the initials “H.R.” signified hand-rolled (as in marijuana joint), was also misguided, according to Krofft: They stood for Royal Highness, backward, he said. He suggests it was the show’s surreal and brightly colored look, in an era marked by hallucinogenic imagery, that prompted such speculation.
