American Music Award 2015 nominations dominated by Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran
Pop superstar Taylor Swift on Tuesday led nominations for the American Music Awards, with Canadian singer The Weeknd the favorite among newcomers. But it looks like these besties will go head-to-head in four of those categories.
The Weeknd and Ed Sheeran, the English singer behind the smash hit ballad “Thinking Out Loud”, follow Swift with five nominations each.
But they’ve got a few stiff competition!
Swift, Sheeran, the Weeknd, Minaj, Trainor, Smith, Luke Bryan, Ariana Grande, Maroon 5 and One Direction are artist of the year nominees. Sheeran, who trails Swift with five nods, will battle Sam Smith and Joe Jonas for Favorite Male Artist – Pop/Rock, while One Direction, Maroon 5 and Walk the Moon are named in the Favorite Duo/Group – Pop/Rock category.
Other nominations for collaboration of the year include Wiz Khalifa’s “See You Again”, featuring Charlie Puth; Rihanna and Kaye West’s “ForFiveSeconds”, featuring Paul McCartney; Mark Ronson’s “Uptwon Funk”, featuring Bruno Mars; and Skrillex and Diplo’s “Whare are Ü Now”, featuring Justin Bieber.
Nicki Minaj is an Artist of the Year nominee.
The Song of The Year nominees are Wiz Khalifa Featuring Charlie Puth “See You Again”, Mark Ronson Featuring Bruno Mars “Uptown Funk!”, Ed Sheeran “Thinking Out Loud”, Taylor Swift “Blank Space”, and The Weeknd “Can’t Feel My Face”. Both are also part of the expansive artist of the year category, which includes 10 artists, all told.
