Acer launches new Windows 10 convertible and a portable all-in-one
During a press conference in Taipei last Oct.12, Acer showcased two new computers that work on Windows 10: the Aspire Z3-700 all-in-one portable PC and the Aspire R 14 convertible notebook. The Aspire R 14’s display can tilt and swivel, which allows it to be used in Laptop, Display, Tent, and Tablet modes.
The 17.3-inch AIO sports two kickstands allow it to stand or lay flat like a jumbo tablet and features a built-in battery that Acer claims will last for 5 hours.
Both devices make use of Microsoft’s clever Continuum feature that subtly adapts the user interface depending on what input devices you’re now using. Both machines were optimized for Windows 10, and have improved Cortana support in particular with dual microphones for better listening in noisy environments.
At the launch, Acer chief executive officer Jason Chen (陳俊聖) said the company has more than 100 devices running on Microsoft’s latest operating system, from the smaller-screen handsets to the larger-display of desktops and all-in-one PCs. They also have Acer TrueHarmony Plus technology with Dolby Audio, as well as Acer BluelightShield, which is created to help reduce eyestrain.
The Aspire R14 will be available later this month in the US with a starting price of $699.
HARDWARE MAKER Acer has refreshed its Aspire R14 convertible with Windows 10 and an Intel Skylake chip as it looks to boost its flailing share of the PC market. But all eyes are on the new devices slowly emerging from manufacturers around the world, built specifically with Windows 10 in mind.
Acer has updated its premium hybrid range, taking on HP’s Envy x360 line with a new 14in convertible laptop.
The Aspire R 14 has a hairline-brush metallic finish and a diamond-cut edge design.
The device is also equipped with MU-MIMO wireless technology, letting users download videos and pictures at super fast speeds.
And in case you were wondering how Jade Primo and the Continuum dock perform when connected to a PC, Acer has you covered. It also has a full HD (1920 x 1080) 10-point capacitive multi-touch screen, which supports a stylus. With 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, this one is on sale for $1,300, down from $1,500.
The Aspire Z3 will be powered by processors from Intel Pentium and Celeron, will feature up to 8GB of RAM, and come in SSD or HDD storage options.
