Fiat confirms Tipo name for new C-segment model
Fiat will resurrect the Tipo name for its new C-segment hatchback in 2016.
The Fiat TIPO is an all-new, four-door auto created from the beginning as a three-box sedan embodying the “Born to be Sedan” concept and is enhanced by the balanced shapes characteristic of Italian design to guarantee personality and style without forgoing functionality. As is the case with all FIAT products, a range of reliable, muscular and efficient engines will be available – two MultiJet II turbo-diesel engines and two petrol units with power outputs ranging from 95hp to 120hp, offered with manual and automatic transmissions (depending on engine).
It will be called the Tipo (or the Aegea in Turkey), comes in hatchback, estate and saloon forms and is the evolution of the “Aegea Project” first seen at the Istanbul Motor Show in May 2015. However now only the hatch and estate are known to be coming to the United Kingdom market.
The new FIAT Tipo saloon measures 4.5m in length, 1.78m in width and 1.48m in height, with a wheelbase of 2.64m and boot capacity of 510 litres, meaning it can accommodate five passengers and their luggage easily.
The Tipo was last sold in the United Kingdom in 1995.
The Fiat Tipo has been designed in Italy by the FCA Style Centre, developed in Turkey with Tofaş R&D and will be built in the Tofaş plant in Bursa. Tipo was also victor of ” European auto Of The Year” in 1989 and the company might capitalize on the goodwill garnered by the brand name, while the name “Fiat Egea” will be limited to Turkish market.
