Microsoft’s Surface Book laptop has a custom Maxwell GPU

They are brilliant. The line was specifically created to address the threat that the iPad in particular and Apple in general represented in business and this threat became more pronounced recently when Apple partnered with IT giants Cisco and IBM (IBM was the company that effectively carried Microsoft into the Enterprise and likely created the most concern for Microsoft). The Macbook Pro line does neither. But lucky for you if you own the Surface Pro 3, you’ll be able to upgrade to the new accessories without buying a new tablet. The Surface Book has a resolution of 3000 x 2000 pixels, making it the clear victor in the display race.

Microsoft hopes the versatility and power provided by Surface Book will eliminate the compromises people feel they have to make when choosing between laptops and tablets. Cortana’s arrival in the mobile market is a continuation of the voice assistant’s roll out into more and more Microsoft devices.

Prices start at $899 (approximately Rs 60,000). “Improvements to control logic partitioning, workload balancing, clock-gating granularity, compiler-based scheduling, number of instructions issued per clock cycle, and many other enhancements allow the Maxwell SM (also called SMM) to far exceed Kepler SMX efficiency”. On the other hand, the Surface Book touts a battery life of 12 hours. It runs under a hexa-core Qualcomm MSM8992 Snapdragon 808 chipset, with a 1.8 GHz CPU, and an Adreno 418 GPU. Both the Surface Pro 3 and 4 can plug into the Surface Dock through USB. Rumors say that the Pro 4 will come in two sizes, standard twelve-inch and an upsized fourteen.

Apart from Microsoft Hello that was demonstrated on stage for the first time (on a mobile device), we also got a glimpse of Microsoft’s much-talked about Continuum feature that saw a grin on everyone’s faces. There’s also a media card slot and a full-size HDMI port for connecting to larger displays. The new Surface Pen is compatible with both Surface Pro 3 and 4 and comes with a sort of an eraser at the end and includes 1024 points of pressure. The cheapest model offers 128 GB of storage and can go up to 1 TB. The tech company has yet to clarify which storage options will be available and how, but there have been a lot of rumors about a 1TB Surface Pro 4 which is awesome.
