Man robs store, hires an Uber cab to flee
Sorry, crooks. Uber is a convenient way to catch a ride, but the service isn’t for getaway cars.
An armed robbery suspect in outside Baltimore, Maryland, fled the scene using an unsuspecting Uber driver.
Just because Dashawn Terrell Cochran robs stores for a living doesn’t mean he can’t enjoy the simple Millennial conveniences of mobile transportation apps.
At 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, Chochran allegedly walked into a Royal Farms Store in the 8200 block of Harford Road.
Cochran is reported to have approached the counter clutching a bottle of Tylenol cold medicine for purposes of distraction. He then demanded money before running from the store with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Police stopped the auto and detained the three men inside before learning the Uber driver had just picked up the passengers.
The police quickly determined that the driver and other passenger had nothing to do with the crime, and were subsequently released.
Cochran is now in jail and being held on $250,000 bail, but that doesn’t make him any less of an innovator.
Cochran is being charged with robbery and assault.
Officers were able to get a description of the suspect and a K-9 unit tracked the path of his escape.
Concern has tended to focus on the quality of Uber drivers, and the company’s lack of thorough medical and criminal screening for its taxi agents.
The lawsuit requests Uber be forced to improve safety standards by introducing several new measures, reports CNET.
