Capcom’s Division 1 is completely focused on VR
Virtual reality will be a major focus at Capcom going forward, as the publisher has confirmed its Development Division 1 team, the studio behind the Resident Evil franchise, is invested in the technology.
“We are focusing our energy on challenging the virtual reality game market”, wrote Division 1’s Jun Takeuchi, before adding that VR is “the hottest market right now”.
The scariest thing about Resident Evil games for the past few years is how bad they’ve been.
Capcom states that the Division 1 team is hard at work bringing new IP with a strong a worldwide appeal, that meets fans demands for their favorite franchises like Resident Evil while providing new experiences that will blow them away. “The response was excellent”. He says their hope is to be “a half-step ahead of users expectations – expectations which aren’t readily apparent in marketing data”. The team has even revealed it is now “building a new game development engine able to support VR”.
The report adds that the company’s VR horror project, which is now in development, will be depending on how popular VR will be in the future. While numerous bundles feature indie games that you might otherwise miss, the Capcom bundle is full of a few heavy hitters: Resident Evil 5with the Untold Stories DLC, plus RE: Revelations and Revelations 2(EP1: Penal Colony) are all present, along withDmC: Devil May Cry,Bionic Commando: Rearmed, Lost Planet 3, and Strider.
