Taiwanese woman gives birth at 30000 feet on flight to Los Angeles
A Taiwanese woman gave birth 30,000 feet in the air, after she prematurely went into labor on a long-haul flight to Los Angeles.
The woman went into labour while on a China Airlines flight bound for Los Angeles, but the plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Alaska when her waters broke six hours into the long-haul flight, the Daily Mail has reported.
A Taiwanese woman, who was under 32 weeks pregnant, gave birth to a baby girl in the plane with the help of cabin crew and a doctor who happened to be travelling on the same flight.
In a video shot by a fellow passenger, flight attendants can be seen wiping the newborn with tissues and wrapping both mother and child in flight blankets.
The other passengers also did their best to give the woman a stress-free labour, Rajput was quoted as saying.
Ms Rajput, speaking to ABC News, said the mother was “tough as nails” and bit down on blankets to prevent herself from screaming. Passengers can be heard clapping & cheering.
“It was super chill”, Rajput said.
“The CAL pilot knowledgeable the company of the state of affairs & requested permission to land at the closest airport – Anchorage, Alaska – out of an abundance of caution, the China Post reported.Rajput told ABC News source in that a border patrol agent came in to the aircraft once they landed, & asked to see the woman’s passport”.
The China Airlines flight then continued its journey to Los Angeles after refuelling, going behind schedule by only three hours.
The mother and baby are in good health, according to the Independent.
The nationality of the baby will depend upon the birth certificate issued by the Anchorage hospital in Alaska, The China Post said, citing Taiwan’s civil aviation authority.
Airline staff said women who are not yet 32-weeks pregnant are treated as normal passengers, which is why the expectant mother was allowed to fly.
