Solder (torn biceps) out for season
In this scenario Vollmer would potentially move to the left side of the line while Cannon takes Vollmer’s spot on the right side.
Five-year veteran Marcus Cannon is the Patriots’ top backup, and replaced Solder on Sunday.
Solder suffered a torn right biceps in a Week 5 game against the Cowboys and is done for the season.
Solder injured his arm during this weekend’s game against the Dallas Cowboys, exiting the action late in the second quarter with what was believed at the time to be an elbow injury. He began the 2014 season as a starting guard before losing his job to Dan Connolly. Now, the tackle spot is minus a good player and Vollmer – a 31-year-old who’s fought through injuries his whole career – is even more important.
This is the first major injury for Solder since he joined the Patriots as a first-round draft choice in 2011. “He just tries to go out there and do it. It doesn’t really seem to affect him too much”. Cannon stepped in as the replacement and logged six starts.
“Marcus has always played well for us”, Belichick said. Fleming would often see snaps as an extra tight end last season to assist on running plays. “I’m glad we have him”. He could be elevated to the active roster, or the team could opt to sign a free agent.
With Solder now out for the season it will be “next man up” as always for the Patriots.
