Gators defensive back arrested, suspended
A University of Florida announced on Twitter that a 19-year-old Gator was suspended indefinitely following his arrest on four felony charges.
The list of charges include one charge of aggravated battery (second-degree felony), two charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent (third-degree felony), and one charge of firing a weapon into a dwelling (second-degree felony).
Porter, a redshirt freshman from Tampa, was arrested on four felony counts and one misdemeanor on Wednesday and booked into the Alachua County jail. According to the victim, the defendant became enraged and started pacing back and forth in the living room.
The Gainesville Police report, in which the victim’s name is redacted, paints a disturbing five-hour period in the victim’s apartment that began at 2:30 a.m. on September 29 when Porter accused her of being involved with one his teammates (who is not named in the report). The girlfriend said she insisted that wasn’t true. After the girl went into her bedroom to avoid the argument, Porter followed her and pulled out a handgun, pointing it at her head while demanding the truth. The Gainesville Police report – the full text of which is below (via Richard Johnson) – alleges that “the victim stated that all of a sudden she saw the defendant raise his arm and fire the handgun in her direction. He is suspended indefinitely for obviously a choice, his choice not to be with us”, McElwain said. The complaint in full is below. During this time the victim was standing next to her front door.
While further information about the incident that led to Porter’s arrest isn’t yet available, the Gators made the right decision to suspend him immediately, likely until the situation is resolved.
“The bullet struck the wall”, Mullins said.
Porter left the apartment a short time later, according to police.
Both the victim and Porter have been in a relationship since 2013, and the victim is ten weeks pregnant, which Porter already knew. The defendant was the passenger. The driver, a friend of Porter’s, was found in possession of a.45-caliber handgun.
