Bears begin prepping to visit Lions
The Detroit Lions are still winless on the season and they are coming off of a brutal loss at home to the Arizona Cardinals. Alshon Jeffery and Eddie Royal should both be back on the field soon, and that gives Cutler a really nice collection of weapons. Something in between good and bad could play out, but Gase was interviewed for top jobs last offseason and his appeal isn’t apt to decline with a year making over Cutler and an offense. In the receiving end, John Brown had 73 yards and one touchdown in four catches while Larry Fitzgerald added 58 yards and one touchdown in five catches.
The Bears started this season 0-3 and looked like a lost cause during their 26-0 loss at Seattle three week ago, but quarterback Jay Cutler returned from an injury and suddenly Chicago has won two straight games including a come-from-behind 18-17 victory at Kansas City last week. On the ground, Matt Forte rushed for 71 yards in 18 attempts.
Jeffery is in a contract year, so unless the Bears could move him mid-season, he’ll be a free agent in a few weeks. Coach Jim Caldwell stuck to his word after reportedly telling the 2014 Pro Bowler one more pick would lead to the bench.
Defensively for the Bears, their most improved aspect is their pass rush. The home team has covered the point spread in five of the last six meetings of these two. “But I know one thing, we’ve got to get better”.
After the first quarter of Baltimore’s game with Cleveland in Week 5, it seemed Aiken was on his way to a career day. Frustrated fans booed the Lions last weekend, leading receiver Golden Tate to voice displeasure before easing off this week.
Joique Bell, who has 22 yards on 20 carries this season, expects to play after missing two games with an ankle injury.
After an 0-3 start, the Bears have rallied to win back-to-back games in the final minute for the first time since 1962. They have nine sacks in the previous three contests – led by Pernell McPhee’s three – after previously recording none. The Bears offense is averaging 17.2 points and 316.4 yards per game and they are minus three in turnover ratio. Now linebacker DeAndre Levy is out after aggravating a hip injury in his season debut. Although the Bears’ pass rush seems to be rolling, they will have to find a way to penetrate a Lions offensive front that has surrendered only seven sacks on the year.
