Skype for Business released on iOS but delayed for Android
A preview version has been available for a while now, and so you might already be familiar with the app’s general functionality.
Intel has recently launched a new solution for cross-platform development: the Multi-OS Engine, which enables you to use the same Java codebase to create Android and – wait for it – iOS apps. For now Microsoft is aiming to improve Skype for mobile business users, but improvements are to come for all products and services.
The Skype for Business app has a new dashboard for accessing your contacts, calls, and meetings. If you are trying to search for someone, you can easily search them by their first or last name, email alias or a phone number.
New users can now download Skype for Business for iOS for free via App Store. After receiving scads of feedback, which is Microsoft’s modus operandi lately, the app has been fully fleshed out and is now ready to tackle your iOS business communication needs.
Meetings have been upgraded with a full-screen video experience, and now simultaneous viewing lets both content and the speaker’s video feed be displayed at the same time. Available as a universal app from the App Store starting today, Skype for Business replaces Lync 2013. In the meantime, you can view a PowerPoint presentation via desktop sharing.
IT admins that work for businesses who are looking for better security and are using Office 365 will be able to utilize multi-factor authentication via Active Directory Authentication Library (ADAL).
The new Skype for Business iOS app is now available as a Universal app in the iTunes Store. iPhone users with Lync 2013 will automatically get updated to the Skype for Business app. iPad users with Lync 2013 need to download the new Universal app from the iTunes Store. IT administrators have the option to set up multi-factor authentication, which would require users to receive a call, text message, or app notification after entering their username and password. Other Office applications also support ADAL-based authentication, which allows for consistent authentication across your organization.
