Twitter appoints Google Chief Business Officer Omid Kordestani as its
Jack Dorsey, Twitter chief executive, said Mr Kordestani was a “proven and experienced leader” who would coach him and other senior executives as well as help attract top talent to the company.
He said Twitter will “move much faster with a smaller and nimbler team”.
It comes a day after new CEO Jack Dorsey has confirmed the company is “parting ways” with 336 employees from across the company.
Dorsey revealed Kordestani’s appointment via Twitter on Wednesday.
Now, Kordestani “is no longer affiliated with Google”, according to CNBC. He was rewarded handsomely upon his return. He is a successful executive in his own right – a multibillionaire after becoming the 12th employee at Google in 1999, when the company was still small enough to employ the Grateful Dead’s chef to make lunch.
However, more recently it appeared he has taken a step away from a central role at the business, when the Alphabet split was made at Google this past summer. Kordestani’s departure was effective immediately.
But a few say that with a market value of about $19 billion and a possible asking price of way more than that, Twitter is too expensive, even for Google. “Omid was instrumental in establishing Google’s business and helped us develop really close, longstanding partnerships across the industry”, the spokesperson said. “We wish him every success in the years ahead”, a Google spokesperson told VatorNews.
Kordestani was dubbed “the soul of Google” in a story by Re/Code a year ago.
“It’s rare you get to be at a company with an incredible business that’s also transforming the world”, he wrote.
Google’s stock soared following those results, and shares are up almost 30% this year.
Costolo had previously said the site “sucks” at dealing with online trolls, and since re-joining Dorsey has also admitted that Twitter remains too hard to understand.
