Live updates from the Kansas City Royals at the All-Star Game

For an Major League Baseball All-Star, there is more to the experience than soaking up the spotlight and receiving additional camera time. For four seasons, from 1959 to 1962, Major League Baseball played not one but two games, turning the Midsummer Classic into a series. That means managers can (and nearly always do) make wholesale changes to their lineups throughout the game to keep fans happy.

There’s also MLB’s rule that at least one player from every team must be on the All-Star roster. The other way could be which league did better in interleague play during the season.

Not too shabby for a team that many thought would fall off after their World Series appearance previous year.

“I’m sure last year’s magical Royals playoff run [turned] around Royals fans’ attention and finally they are starting to believe in their home team”, Lee said from his home in Seoul.

As bad of a game as this was to watch, it showed that even on one of the KC Royals’ worst days, they still have the ability to win, and that goes a long way.

Over the last five years MLB has the highest watched all-star game of any professional league, surpassing the NFL’s Pro Bowl in 2014.

If a fan of another sport tries to say how their all-star game is better, ask them how they feel about seeing their favorite players giving minimal effort, performing trick shots, or not playing defense.
