Protesters want meeting with Baltimore officials
Ralikh Hayes told an Associated Press reporter over the telephone Wednesday night that the protesters number 32 altogether and that they “have no access to bathrooms, food or water now”. The full council still has to vote on his permanent appointment.
Davis was appointed interim chief to replace Anthony Batts.
Baltimore erupted in violence this past April after the death of 25-year-old Freddie Gray, who suffered a fatal spinal cord injury while in police custody.
Baltimore City Police are announcing an arrest in the shooting of a nine-year-old girl earlier this month.
Member of the Baltimore Uprising coalition say they won’t leave until Interim Police Commissioner Kevin Davis and Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake agree to a list of demands. A few of the demands include police avoiding the use of military-style equipment and only use riot gear as a last resort to protect officers.
In the interest of constitutional rights, the protesters said, they also want officers to always wear badges and name tags. All of the officers are now awaiting trial. He drove the shooter to and from crime scene, police said. It’s just part of where the city is right now.
“It was so frustrating to stand with the commissioner and community members to discuss yet another child who was injured, caught in the crossfire of a very violent year”, Rawlings-Blake said.
“After exhausting all other possible avenues, and going through the “proper way”… what we’re saying now is that has failed so now business as usual cannot continue”, said Murphy.
However, police said the shooter remains at large. Police Commissioner Kevin Davis said Daye was charged with attempted murder. His contract will run through June of 2020.
