Kong vs. Godzilla Set For 2020 Release
Legendary and Warner Bros. are officially mapping out their new cinematic franchise centered around Godzilla and King Kong.
According to the announcement, both Godzilla films will include the human Monarch organization.
Legendary CEO Thomas Tull expressed his excitement about the 2020 battle in a statement. And from the looks of it, Legendary and Warner Bros have been waiting all their lives too, with the two studios now joining forces to create a new “Monster universe” franchise.
Legendary and Warner Bros. have confirmed today that they will be combining the Godzilla and King Kong franchises so that they occupy one shared, Marvel-like universe.
“Working with our partners at Legendary, we enjoyed tremendous creative and commercial success with Godzilla”.
Legendary has also secured rights to other kaiju from Godzilla creator Toho studios in Japan, including the pteranodon Rodan, the giant, fluttering Mothra, and the three-headed dragon King Ghidorah. “It’s great to be able to revisit these characters and help create a franchise with so many creative possibilities for filmmakers”. The non-speaking, computer-generated stars of 2014’s Godzilla and 2005’s King Kong will soon be joined together at the center of their own movie, so let’s assume their climactic showdown will be a landmark achievement in sparkling onscreen banter. Production on Kong: Skull Island, which had been at Universal until recently, begins October. 19.
Monster movies have been making a major comeback in the last few years, and now Warner Bros. and Legendary are looking to capitalize on the hype. It is scheduled to be released on June 8, 2018. Alex Garcia and Eric McLeod will executive produce. Starring Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, and Samuel L. Jackson, this flick will rampage into theaters on March 10, 2017. Gareth Edwards will return to direct. It seems this will be Godzilla 3, as it is coming in 2020.
