Overwatch closed beta programme begins October 27
While each hero represents a formidable force on their own, players can amplify their potential by assembling into a well-balanced team and creatively combining powers. Overwatch is a team-based shooter for PC.
The next thing the “Overwatch” Beta testers will help with is the functionality of the game. Secondly they want to “hammer” their server infrastructure to highly test it on a wide variety of systems. That does seem likely, but the duration and total size of the beta (which Blizzard has said will be small to start) will be telling about Blizzard’s release plans. Blizzard has announced that the beta test will kick off in America by October 27 and Europe and Asia will follow shortly after the official date. These individuals will have regular access to the public beta test and sole goal is to provide gameplay feedback through the beta forums.
From time to time, we’ll also need to open up the floodgates and call upon an army to overwhelm our hardware. Beta Test Weekends, however, will invite more players in order to stress-test the game’s servers.
While the Open Beta Weekends are sure to be fun and beneficial to the completion of the game, the game will not be consistently accessible for play, hence “Beta Test Weekends”.
Blizzard has announced the Overwatch beta will be launching on October 27. The first beta weekend is expected after BlizzCon.
The beta is Windows-only and will require the Battle.net desktop app. Those selected for the beta will receive an email with instructions when the beta is ready to launch. The version of the beta test used for the weekend phases will more restricted than the Closed Beta as this is more about stress-testing rather than feature testing.
