Die Hard 6 Will Follow Younger John McClane
These new plans for the franchise sound like they’re replacing the version of Die Hard 6 that was rumored a year ago. According to Deadline, director Len Wiseman and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura are working out a deal with Fox for Die Hard 6. He’s not on officially on board, but Willis is reportedly apprised of any developments of the next feature. The project is still in the early stages, and one of the next steps will be to find a screenwriter to “reinvent” the action series. There have been rumors circling about a Die Hard 6 movie for awhile, but it seems to have recently picked up a little more steam.
It wouldn’t be the first time the series has gone that route, as Die Hard With a Vengeance, was originally a spec script known as Simon Says. “Wiseman pitched a new take incorporating the “Die Hard” mythology to di Bonaventura, who has a strong relationship with his “G.I”.
Let us know what you think of these developments, and what you would like to see (or not see) from a new Die Hard movie. This era was also described in the 2009 and 2010 issue Die Hard: Year One.
It’s worth pointing out that McClane’s origin story has actually been told before, in a comic book prequel published by BOOM! The film will be set in New York City, 1979.
I’ll just add a few extra amaretto to my egg nog this Christmas when I throw Die Hard on at neighbor disturbing volumes and pretend that none of this is happening.
The last instalment of the franchise, A Good Day to Die Hard, was released in 2013 and grossed over $300 million, despite being atrocious. Although it only grossed $67 million domestically, it turned out an impressive $304 million at the worldwide box office.
