Five arrested over assault of 16-year-old girl at St Clair party
Footage showing up to eight males in the room with the girl was uncovered after police seized a GoPro camera during an operation targeting graffiti offences.
The assaults allegedly took place at a party at the western Sydney suburb of St Clair in May.
POLICE have arrested four men in Sydney’s west in relation to the alleged gang rape of a 16-year-old girl after they stumbled across a GoPro camera with footage of the incident.
The police reminded everyone to report any matter of sexual assault to the police so it can be “fully investigated” and victims can be given proper counseling. After initially pinpointing the location of the party, they were then able to find the alleged victim and then track down the alleged rapists.
“There were a number of reasons why she didn’t report the matter – her lack of memory at the time, also her fear of any reprisal”, Detective Chief Inspector Peter Yeomans from the NSW Child Abuse Squad said on Thursday.
A 17-year-old boy was arrested and charged “with two counts of aggravated sexual assault in company, attempted aggravated assault, two counts of aggravated indecent assault and resisting police”.
“These adult males are quite large men – and a few of these men are married with children”.
Those arrested include a 17-year-old who was arrested at his home in Wilmot, and a 23-year-old and two 24-year-old’s who were arrested at Penrith Police Station.
A hearing is scheduled Thursday at Penrith and Mt. Druitt courts. All were charged with multiple sexual assault and aggravated sexual assault in company. All were refused bail.
