Colts Winning Streak Continues In Houston
A game for the ages?
No one could have expected much from the aged quarterback.
Hoyer finished with 312 yards passing with two touchdowns and an interception.
Released by Houston in March after 12 seasons with the team, Johnson had six catches for 77 yards. He was never a big-armed monster back there, more of a cerebral guy who takes what the defense gives. Rookie Jaelen Strong only had two catches for 53 yards, but both of those two receptions resulted in touchdowns. Frank Gore also had a solid night with 22 rushes for 98 yards and a score.
Keyed by an interception from Adams that stalled a promising Texans opening drive, the Colts discovered a quick rhythm and scored to close three consecutive possessions to take a 13-0 lead.
“You remember what happened [last year]”, Jackson said.
But the Texans were unable to stop the Colts on the other side. Win No. 10 came just hours after Pro Bowl receiver T.Y. Hilton celebrated the birth of his daughter.
After the loss, I asked Mr. Loves the Media, Texans running back Arian Foster, the absolutely loaded question if the Texans’ problem is simply a quarterback issue.
The Texans played like it was their game on the first drive. It now seems that they are heading to dominate the AFC South in a way that not many dominated in the past.
Little wonder, really, that when Hasselbeck was interviewed at game’s end by Tracy Wolfson, the tears flowed.
Griff Whalen can do more than fair catch, after all.
On Thursday, the 40-year-old Hasselbeck again did not commit a turnover, guided the Colts to a 13-point lead in the first half and kept them ahead the entire game with solid, methodical drives.
The Colts’ play from Thursday night is embedded below. The ball tipped out of Foster’s hands and into the waiting arms of the Colts’ Mike Adams. Absolutely no idea what Toler was doing on the play; if he was wearing a Houston uniform he would’ve been flagged for setting a pick. We’ll have a few time off to get healthy now. The overall performance from O’Brien’s team wasted another standout showing by star receiver DeAndre Hopkins (11 catches for 169 yards). Up next was Gore again, maneuvering his way through the trenches for the first score of the second half. His second late in the fourth quarter stifled QB Brian Hoyer and sealed the win.
The Colts benefited mightily from generous officiating.
The Texans made the division playoffs in 2011 and 2012 but fell to 2-14 in 2013, a season in which coach Gary Kubiak collapsed on the field at halftime of their eighth game and Phillips assumed interim head coaching duties. Driving around town and walking around the tailgate scene before Thursday night’s game and it’s apparent the only member of this team is J.J. Watt. The quarterback now has 10 days in which to get ready for the Colts’ October. 18 home game with New England….
The Colts are just 3-2, and may very well be 3-3 after a visit from the Patriots next week.
