Samsung Gear S2 review: New Samsung wearable goes for circular look
“We have culminated the years of experience, customers” feedback and all the nuances of our great smartphone and tablet heritage and best possible watch – and mark my words “watch’ – for all Australians with this Gear S2“, Mr Gokhale said.
Both wearables run Tizen OS and work with smartphones running Android 4.4 and onwards.
SAMSUNG launches its newest smartwatch in Australia today with a design strategy that it hopes will enable it to win over consumers this Christmas.
While other technology companies have produced round smartwatches before, the Gear S2 is a clear break for Samsung which has previously made smartwatches that have looked like chunky hi-tech gadgetry rather than traditional watches.
The Samsung Gear S2 was released in the United States in early October and is already making waves in the wearable tech industry. its latest watch-gadget is Wi-Fi compatible, can reportedly last up to three days without a charge and features a round design that sharply differentiates from its highest-profile competitor, the Apple Watch. Delivering crisp colors, the display also has a wide viewing angles, which makes the Gear S2’s screen much more vibrant than other Android Wear devices now available.
Samsung was so bullish about the success of its Gear S2 that it even offered access to the Software Development Kit (SDK) months before the actual product release. Samsung has taken its smartwatch product to a whole a new level.
Separating the Gear S2 from the S2 classic is the design. The new shape of the smartwatch required redesigned apps, but Samsung made sure to provide all necessary design resources. The rotating bezel lets you navigate around the watch without blocking the (relatively) small screen with your fingers. The company says that creating notifications and messaging services was also more convenient thanks to the new interface. However, from what I’ve read, the Gear S2 is probably closer to Apple Watch as a platform than it is to Android Wear. Users can choose from several watch faces based on their needs and preferences and get the most relevant information.
Competition in the wearable market is intensifying.
