Sung Hyun Park shoots 10-under 62 in South Korea
Park Sung-hyun, a three-time victor on the Korea LPGA (KLPGA) Tour in 2015, shot a bogey-free round of 10-under 62 to open the LPGA KEB Hana Bank Championship at Ocean Course at Sky 72 Golf & Resort in Incheon, west of Seoul.
The world No 2 carded four birdies but, crucially, only bogeyed the seventh, to stay in contention as they enter the second round.
She said she was happy with her five birdies on the front nine, but felt she could have performed better after the turn.
Her putting is what put Piller on the map just last month after holing a clutch putt on the final hole of her Sunday singles match during the Solheim Cup to help lift Team U.S.A.to victory and she’s continued that good play this week in South Korea.
“I just made a few putts”, Piller said. I’ve never seen her play before and she’s a great player. “I missed the green on the first hole and I had about a 10-footer (for par), so I think that just kind of kick-started the whole day”. “I’m so excited and I’m really proud of my country”.
“I’m not trying to be all humble and all that but I really feel like Inbee deserves to be in that world No. 1 ranking”, Ko said. “I just felt like I was pretty solid out there”, Hull told the media Thursday.
“I have to say that with Lexi and Michelle, there were a few holes where they shot farther than I did, so we were kind of going back and forth there….”
Hull’s score matched her lowest round of the season, which she recorded at last week’s Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia to finish tied for 25th.
Korean rookie Kim Hyo-joo, her compatriot Ji Eun-hee and China’s Feng Shanshan are tied for third at 5-under par.
A Korean tour star set a course record to seize the first round lead at the only LPGA Tour event in South Korea on Thursday. Lexi Thompson is part of a group at 4-under par through round one. The South Korean star won two of the five majors this year and is tied with second-ranked Lydia Ko for the tour victory lead with four.
